The shepherd brings the herd to a watering place and wonders what the carpenters are doing. Upon hearing the explanation, he smugly joins the process, thinking that he will definitely fish out the fish. As a result, three men stand knee-deep in the water and try to get to the burbot.
All this fuss is seen by the landowner, who is annoyed that the peasants are busy with nonsense, and not business. Having learned about the purpose of their floundering in water, he is imbued with the importance of the task and even calls for the help of the coachman Vasily. Now, under the command of the master, four catchers are wielding over the squeezed fish, but they cannot catch it at all. The landowner thinks that the whole thing is the worthlessness of the servants, and he himself crawls into the water.
It takes a few minutes. The master grabs a burbot by the gills and pulls his victim out from under the snag. Fishermen admire the noble catch and dexterity of the landowner. The master himself is most rejoiced. But at this moment the insidious fish breaks out of his hands and swims away, waving his heavy tail.
