A man is so arranged that his heart cannot react to everything that happens around. He learns to protect himself from stress and unrest, otherwise it will become impossible to live. But there are events that cannot leave people indifferent, they are obliged to respond to them. What are these circumstances, and why are they so important?
An example of such an event was described by A.P. Chekhov in the story "Tosca". The main character has grief - his son died. Surviving a child is a terrible test for any parent, no one can calmly react to such a loss. So Jonah is looking for a man who can cry. However, in a big city nobody cares about him. Everyone is in a hurry about their business, passengers are indifferent to the fate of the one who just carries them for money, and even bad luck. And the hero cannot concentrate on work; he is choking, overwhelming, and driving madness into anguish. Even among colleagues, he does not find a bit of sympathy. Only a horse listens to him, which he “didn’t even run into oats”.
Another example of a heartbreaking event is described by A. S. Pushkin in the work “Station Warden”. A father cherishes his only daughter, lives for her. She is the only subject of his pride. All guests admire the economic and hospitable beauty Dunya. But one day the girl goes to church with guest Samson Vyrin and does not return home. The unfortunate man knocked down in search of a girl, but then it turned out that she herself had gone with the hussar to the capital in order to live a luxurious and carefree life. He tries to bring his daughter back, but her roommate kicks him out of the door. Desperate and left alone, the hero becomes drunk and dies. Only after his death did the ungrateful Dunya repent of the criminal indifference to his fate.
Thus, we all must understand that indifference can kill a person, so in no case should you show it to those who need care and sympathy. You can’t pass by someone else’s grief, and even more so, by relatives and parents who worry about us and want only our well-being.
