(297 words) One of the prominent representatives of the era of classicism in Russian literature was Denis Fonvizin. It was he who wrote the play “The Undergrowth”, which is still relevant in our time. Mitrofanushka, the protagonist of the work, is the same undergrowth, after whom the drama is named. What kind of person is this?
Few people know that the name "Mitrofan" has Greek roots. Translated into Russian, it means "sissy". Therefore, it is not surprising that Denis Fonvizin called his hero exactly that. Mitrofanushka is fifteen years old. He spends almost all of his time with his mother and does not move away from her a single step. Despite the fact that the hero has a father, his authority is not recognized. For Mitrofan, the most important thing is his mother. Here it is worth recalling the well-known scene when a son pities a mother who is already tired of beating her husband. He is spoiled by his own parents, who don’t have a soul in him. Favorite activities of a teenager - eat a lot and sit back. He does not want to learn, to read books too, but to marry - with joy! The hero is tough and heartless. This can be seen with the naked eye in his relation to the nanny. Despite the fact that Mitrofan offends and insults her in every possible way, she continues to always be on his side. We see the same attitude to his home teachers. All their attempts to teach him at least something fail. Also, do not forget about such a character trait as sneakiness. He is rude to certain people, “he doesn’t put a penny”; trying to please others in every way. Mitrofan also achieves much through blackmail. So, for example, he behaves with his own mother, if only to achieve the desired result. He loves to sneak on someone. At the very end of the play, we see how the hero hurts the mother’s heart, asking her to “untie” him.
So, it is obvious that Mitrofan fully corresponds to the meaning of his name. He is a "sissy", stupid and rude, like Prostakova herself. It is on his example that one must learn what kind of person is not worth being!
